Starch Contrast
This story was almost a 3 star for me...but it was also almost a one star. I'm going to average it out by going with 2 stars.I love shy characters and this short story is about a shy M/M romance writer and all of the hilarious things that go wrong for him at a conference for writers and readers. It was very cute and for the most part very funny.
What brought this story down for me was the main character's fellow author and friend, Miss Felicity. She was probably one of the funniest parts of the story for alot of people but...no. Just...no.
Miss Felicity is a black woman whose butt is big, her accent is southern "ghetto" (yes, the word ghetto is used) and she's loud with alot of attitude. I believe at one point she does something that's described as a black woman head nod or something like that.
Oh, and she carries fried chicken in her purse.
Not only does she carry fried chicken in her purse but when she's done eating it, while in a bar, she throws the bone onto the bar for someone else to clean up.
Wtf?? I think that she was supposed to be a funny caricature of some type but I just found the character to be an offensive stereotype.
I was trying to take the character for what she was most likely supposed to be but I couldn't. I wondered if I was offended just because I'm a black woman but no. I was offended by the Native American male character in Chasing Seth and last time I checked I'm not Native American and I don't have a penis and balls.
So, yeah, two stars is all I can give this story.
